Mission Summary

As said before, we will encounter them when we investigate a system we thought was uninhabited, but they have just founded a colony there. They are way behind in tech on us, but know enough to see us. They will be happy about the Federation, but the colonists tell us to go to their home planet (about five light years away, so a short hop for us) to discuss things there.

Talks go very well and except for maybe a few misunderstandings, as you always have, it goes like it never goes (while science, engineering, operations and medical do their thing in making an assessment of their technology level). But then the colony people start to get ill (and soon the home planet follows). It turns out that they are susceptible to a harmless bacterium that we all carry (E. coli, a staphylococcus of some sort, we can think of something). Medical and science get into high gear.

The only problem is security, who doesn't have much to do this mission.

Here is a description of the race:

Physical description: They are generally smaller and lighter then humans, due to the higher gravity. They evolved from herbivores and to spot predators, their eyes are planted a bit more on the side of their head, giving them a wider vision arc. Also they are build to run from predators, so they have good endurance and are able to react very fast.

They only have four fingers on each hand. Their face is formed a bit like a crossing between a human and a horse. Their forehead is human in form, until just below the eyes (which are placed 20 degrees more to each side then human eyes). From there you get a horse-like muzzle, but only shorter. Their teeth are also horse-like, because they are herbivores.

Their organs show their herbivore lifestyle, with three stomachs and a long intestine system. The rest of the organs are fairly normal herbivore organs. Their hearing range is a lot farther then humans, enabling them to hear sounds from 15 to 50,000 Hz (humans can only hear from 20 to 20,000Hz).

description: They are quick to spot problems and the connections between them. They prefer to work in groups, where a large group specialized in a certain aspect of life is called a Gharunna (translation: herd). These herds had typical between 2000 and 20,000 members and lived often in their own village. The herd leader is appointed by complex rituals and can be both male and female (there's equality between the sexes). The herd leaders choose a president and a parliament. There are now some 400,000 herds, which means that the total N'Doro population is around 4,000,000,000 (the average herd having 10,000 members). When a herd becomes too large, it is split up. These herds are specialized in one or two things (like wine production, or computer manufacturing), and some of them are famous over the entire planet.

From their leader challenges comes a sort of music that it popular on the entire planet, but incomprehensible to humans, since quite a lot of it falls out of the human hearing range.

Their technology is behind UFP with only slow warp capacities (see spaceship description) and due to their pacifist nature, the only weapons they have is a neural whip (it just temporary blocks all neural connections between the brain and the arms and legs, effectively disabling a person for 10 to 15 minutes, effect similar to Starfleet heavy stun). They have a larger version on their spaceships (think of it as a Star Wars Ion cannon, it just disables all electronics onboard, just like the small version disables all electronics in the body). Their warp capacity is a joint effort of only 50 herds.

The N'Doro have founded one colony, on a planet round a start some 5 light years away (I haven't got the stats for that one, but I can make them).

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Chera II is a world a bit larger then Earth, were vast plains dominate the landscape, together with humid jungles. There are two oceans (covering 60% of the planet's surface), and small polar regions. On these plains evolved a sentient species of herbivores, the N'Doro, who just attained warp speed.

And their ships:

Their ships are small sized freighters (81.25 m x 39.70 m x 20.32 m) with 3 decks for the cargo version and 4 decks for the passenger version. The last one can carry 700 people. They can go warp 1.5 as their normal speed, warp 2 as maximum sustainable and if necessary they can reach warp 2.4 for 4 hours and their maximum impulse speed is .40c. They can land and take off from a planet's surface, but it costs a lot of power to do so. They have one of those ion cannons on board, in a top turret. Their sensors are not very good in UFP standards, with a maximum capacity of 1.5 light years for the long range sensors (an Intrepid can scan up to 22 light years with the long range sensors). They have no shields, transporters and replicators, and only rudimentary gravity (just enough to define up and down, say like the moon).

They also have a small shuttle, like the Starfleet type 8, but without warp capacities, and without weapons.

They also have an orbital space yard, where they make the freighters. It's a very small structure, a circular design only 50 meters in diameter (160 if you count the pylons used to hold the ships while build), and 35 meters high. They can build or hold two ships at a time, and have docking capacity for two more (not compatible with Starfleet docking equipment. The station has a crew of 50, plus 500-600 engineers for building the ships. They have 3 light year sensors and two turrets with ion cannons.
